God’s Character and Unfulfilled Prophecy
God’s Character
Mal 3:6 For I am the LORD, I do not change; Therefore you are not
consumed, O sons of Jacob.
Titus 1:2 in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie [oJ ajyeudhV" qeoV"], promised before
age times [proV

Jer 18:1-11 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD,
saying: 2 Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you
to hear My words. 3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was,
making something at the wheel. 4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred
in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it
seemed good to the potter to make. 5 Then the word of the LORD came to me,
saying: 6 O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter? says the
LORD. Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house
of Israel! 7 The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom,
to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it, 8 if that nation against whom I
have spoken turns from its evil, I will repent of the disaster that I thought
to bring upon it. 9 And the instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning
a kingdom, to build and to plant it, 10 if it does evil in My sight so that it
does not obey My voice, then I will repent concerning the good with which I
said I would benefit it. 11 Now therefore, speak to the men of Judah and to the
inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus says the LORD: Behold, I am fashioning a
disaster and devising a plan against you. Return now every one from his evil
way, and make your ways and your doings good.
Unfulfilled Prophecy
Ezek 26:1-21 And it came to pass in the eleventh year, on the
first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 2 Son
of man, because Tyre has said against Jerusalem, Aha! She is broken who was the
gateway of the peoples; now she is turned over to me; I shall be filled; she is
laid waste. 3 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against you, O
Tyre, and will cause many nations to come up against you, as the sea causes its
waves to come up. 4 And they shall destroy the walls of Tyre and break down her
towers; I will also scrape her dust from her, and make her like the top of a
rock. 5 It shall be a place for spreading nets in the midst of the sea, for I
have spoken, says the Lord GOD; it shall become plunder for the nations. 6 Also
her daughter villages which are in the fields shall be slain by the sword. Then
they shall know that I am the LORD. 7 For thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I
will bring against Tyre from the north Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon,
king of kings, with horses, with chariots, and with horsemen, and an army with
many people. 8 He will slay with the sword your daughter villages in the
fields; he will heap up a siege mound against you, build a wall against you,
and raise a defense against you. 9 He will direct his battering rams against
your walls, and with his axes he will break down your towers. 10 Because of the
abundance of his horses, their dust will cover you; your walls will shake at
the noise of the horsemen, the wagons, and the chariots, when he enters your
gates, as men enter a city that has been breached. 11 With the hooves of his
horses he will trample all your streets; he will slay your people by the sword,
and your strong pillars will fall to the ground. 12 They will plunder your
riches and pillage your merchandise; they will break down your walls and
destroy your pleasant houses; they will lay your stones, your timber, and your
soil in the midst of the water. 13 I will put an end to the sound of your
songs, and the sound of your harps shall be heard no more. 14 I will make you
like the top of a rock; you shall be a place for spreading nets, and you shall
never be rebuilt, for I the LORD have spoken, says the Lord GOD. 15 Thus says
the Lord GOD to Tyre: Will the coastlands not shake at the sound of your fall,
when the wounded cry, when slaughter is made in the midst of you? 16 Then all
the princes of the sea will come down from their thrones, lay aside their
robes, and take off their embroidered garments; they will clothe themselves
with trembling; they will sit on the ground, tremble every moment, and be
astonished at you. 17 And they will take up a lamentation for you, and say to
you: How you have perished, O one inhabited by seafaring men, O renowned city,
who was strong at sea, she and her inhabitants, who caused their terror to be
on all her inhabitants! 18 Now the coastlands tremble on the day of your fall;
Yes, the coastlands by the sea are troubled at your departure. 19 For thus says
the Lord GOD: When I make you a desolate city, like cities that are not
inhabited, when I bring the deep upon you, and great waters cover you, 20 then
I will bring you down with those who descend into the pit, to the people of
old, and I will make you dwell in the lowest part of the earth, in places
desolate from antiquity, with those who go down to the pit, so that you may
never be inhabited; and I shall establish glory in the land of the living. 21 I
will make you a terror, and you shall be no more; though you are sought for,
you will never be found again, says the Lord GOD.
Ezek 29:17-21 And it came to pass in the twenty-seventh year,
in the first month, on the first day of the month, that the word of the
LORD came to me, saying, 18 Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon
caused his army to labor strenuously against Tyre; every head was made bald,
and every shoulder rubbed raw; yet neither he nor his army received wages from
Tyre, for the labor which they expended on it. 19 Therefore thus says the Lord
GOD: Surely I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; he
shall take away her wealth, carry off her spoil, and remove her pillage; and
that will be the wages for his army. 20 I have given him the land of Egypt for
his labor, because they worked for Me, says the Lord GOD. 21 In that day I will
cause the horn of the house of Israel to spring forth, and I will open your
mouth to speak in their midst. Then they shall know that I am the LORD.
Why? God’s Character in
Action
Jonah 3 Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time,
saying, 2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message
that I tell you. 3 So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of
the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, a three-day journey in
extent. 4 And Jonah began to enter the city on the first day’s walk. Then he
cried out and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown! 5 So the
people of Nineveh believed God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from
the greatest to the least of them. 6 Then word came to the king of Nineveh; and
he arose from his throne and laid aside his robe, covered himself with
sackcloth and sat in ashes. 7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published
throughout Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let
neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste anything; do not let them eat, or
drink water. 8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry
mightily to God; yes, let every one turn from his evil way and from the
violence that is in his hands. 9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and
turn away from His fierce anger, so that we may not perish? 10 Then God saw
their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented from the
disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it.
Jer 26:2-3 Thus says the LORD: Stand in the court of the Lord’s
house, and speak to all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the
Lord’s house, all the words that I command you to speak to them. Do not
diminish a word. 3 Perhaps everyone
will listen and turn from his evil way, that I may repent concerning the
calamity which I purpose to bring on them because of the evil of their doings.
Jer 26:12-19 Then Jeremiah spoke to all the princes and all the
people, saying: The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against
this city with all the words that you have heard. 13 Now therefore, amend your
ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; then the LORD
will repent concerning the doom that
He has pronounced against you. 14 As for me, here I am, in your hand; do with
me as seems good and proper to you. 15 But know for certain that if you put me
to death, you will surely bring innocent blood on yourselves, on this city, and
on its inhabitants; for truly the LORD has sent me to you to speak all these
words in your hearing. 16 So the princes and all the people said to the priests
and the prophets, This man does not deserve to die. For he has spoken to us in
the name of the LORD our God. 17 Then certain of the elders of the land rose up
and spoke to all the assembly of the people, saying: 18 Micah of Moresheth
prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spoke to all the people
of Judah, saying, Thus says the LORD of hosts: Zion shall be plowed like a
field, Jerusalem shall become heaps of ruins, and the mountain of the temple
Like the bare hills of the forest. 19 Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah
ever put him to death? Did he not fear the LORD and seek the Lord’s favor? And
the Lord repented concerning the
doom which He had pronounced against them. But we are doing great evil against
ourselves.
The Solution - All the
prophecies will be fulfilled in the day of the Lord.
Dan 9:2 in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by
the books the number of the years specified by the word of the LORD through
Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish seventy years in the desolations
of Jerusalem.
Jer 25:11-13 And this whole land shall be a desolation and an
astonishment, and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
12 Then it will come to pass, when seventy years are completed, that I will
punish the king of Babylon and that nation, the land of the Chaldeans, for
their iniquity, says the LORD; and I will make it a perpetual desolation. 13 So
I will bring on that land all My words which I have pronounced against it, all
that is written in this book, which Jeremiah has prophesied concerning all the
nations.
Dan 9:23-27 At the beginning of your supplications the command
went out, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; therefore
consider the matter, and understand the vision: 24 Seventy weeks are determined
for your people and for your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an
end of sins, to make reconciliation for iniquity, to bring in everlasting
righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy. 25
Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the command to
restore and build Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven
weeks and sixty-two weeks. The street
shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublesome times. 26 And after the
sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself. And the people of the prince who is to come
shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood,
and till the end of the war desolations are determined. 27 Then he shall
confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week he
shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations
shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is
determined, is poured out on the desolate.
God’s Word Stands when
It Is Confirmed with and Oath.
Gen 22:15-18 Then the Angel of the LORD called to Abraham a
second time out of heaven, 16 and said: By Myself I have sworn, says the LORD,
because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only
son; 17 blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your
descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the
seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. 18 In
your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have
obeyed My voice.
Psa 89:20-37 I have found My servant David; with My holy oil I
have anointed him, 21 With whom My hand shall be established; Also My arm shall
strengthen him. 22 The enemy shall not outwit him, nor the son of wickedness
afflict him. 23 I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague those who
hate him. 24 But My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him, and in My name
his horn shall be exalted. 25 Also I will set his hand over the sea, and his
right hand over the rivers. 26 He shall cry to Me, You are my Father, My God,
and the rock of my salvation. 27 Also I will make him My firstborn, the highest
of the kings of the earth. 28 My mercy I will keep for him forever, and My
covenant shall stand firm with him. 29 His seed also I will make to endure forever,
and his throne as the days of heaven. 30 If his sons forsake My law and do not
walk in My judgments, 31 if they break My statutes and do not keep My
commandments, 32 then I will punish their transgression with the rod, and their
iniquity with stripes. 33 Nevertheless My lovingkindness I will not utterly
take from him, nor allow My faithfulness to fail. 34 My covenant I will not
break, nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips. 35 Once I have sworn by
My holiness; I will not lie to David: 36 His seed shall endure forever, and his
throne as the sun before Me; 37 It shall be established forever like the moon,
even like the faithful witness in the sky. Selah
Psa 110:4 The LORD has sworn and will not repent, “You are a
priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”
